FSSAI License

FSSAI LICENSE

The FSSAI Department make sure that all food-related laws are being followed by food business operators (FBO). FSSAI Registration or FSSAI License is required irrespective of turnover of the FBO. FSSAI Department reports to Ministry of Health & Family welfare.

Food License is mandatory for Starting a food business in India. Registration with FSSAI department is mandatory irrespective of the sales turnover of food products. Whether you are a manufacturer or trader or wholesaler or retailer or exporter or importer of food products or supplying raw materials to manufacturer then mandatorily you need to obtain 14 digit FSSAI License or FSSAI Registration Number. As per the Food packaging guidelines, FSSAI Registration Number must be printed on every food packages & License should be displayed on the premises of FBO.

FSSAI has defined a common procedure for all food operators to apply for applicable Food License.

FSSAI Food License has three categories. An FBO can identify the required FSSAI License type basis on its business category & turnover.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF FSSAI LICENSE?

FSAAI Basic License

For a food Business with turnover below Rs. 12 Lac annually.

  1. FSSAI State License

a. For the food Business with turnover between Rs. 12 Lac to Rs. 20 Cr annually. or/additionally,

b. For Manufacturer:

  1. Dairy Units: Production of 501 LPD to 50,000 LPD of milk or 2.5 to 2500 metric tonnes of milk solids per annum.
  2. Vegetable Oil Processing Units: Production up to 2 metric tonnes per day.
  3. All other food Processing Units: All Cereals, grains & pulses milling unit with production between 100 kg/lt to 2 Metric tonnes per day”

(FSSAI State license can be obtained in 45 to 60 days)

c. Other Business (other than manufacturing

  1. Normal Storage: Capacity up to 50,000 metric tonnes.
  2. Cold Storage: Capacity up to 10,000 metric tonnes.
  3. Atmosphere Controlled Storage: Capacity up to 1,000 metric tonnes.
  4. For Wholesaler: turnover up to 30 crores/annum.
  5. Food Vending Agency: vending machines between 12 to 100 in one States.
  6. Transporter: up to 100 vehicles/turnover up to 30 crores.
  7. Hotel: up to 4 Star hotels.

Note- Respective Designated Officer of the FSSAI Department will conduct physical verification of Factory / Warehouse before issuing the State license.

 
  1. FSSAI Central License

a. For Business with turnover more than Rs. 20 Cr annually. Or/additionally,

b. For Manufacturer:

  1. Dairy Units: Production of more than 50,000 LPD of milk or more than 2500 metric tonnes of milk solids per annum.
  2. Vegetable Oil Processing Units: Production more than 2 metric tonnes per day.
  3. All other food Processing Units: All Cereals, grains & pulses milling unit with production more than 2 Metric tonnes per day.”

(FSSAI State license can be obtained in 45 to 60 days)

c. Other Business (other than manufacturing)

d. FSSAI License for Importer / Exporter Every food business operator intent to export or import food product from/to India, the mandatorily he has to apply for FSSAI Central license before Export or Import will take place in India. FSSAI Central license with help of Enterslice can be obtained within 20 to 30 working days.

A. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR BASIC FSSAI REGISTRATION

For Online FSSAI Registration.

  • Aadhaar card of the Business owner.
  • Scan copy of the signature.
  • Scan of Photographs.
  • Detail about the business activity.
  • Declaration about the Business place.

B. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR FSSAI STATE LICENSE

Documents List:

  • Declaration Form.
  • Aadhaar card of the Business owner.
  • Scan copy of the signature.
  • Scan of Photographs.
  • MOA/AOA / Partnership deed ( As Applicable ).
  • Company GST No if available.
  • Detail about the business activity & List of food products.
  • Authority letter in the favor of the consultant.
  • NOC from Property owner along with rent agreement.
  • Electricity bills of business / Factory / Warehouse.
  • In case of Transporter applying for FSSAI license need to provide RC of vehicles along with a declaration.
  • NOC from Brand owner in case you are doing re-packaging business.al Documents for Food Manufacture
  • Factory blueprint.
  • List of Machine with photographs.
  • List of Food item proposed to be manufactured.
  • Water Ground report (DO can demand).
  • Product Testing report in few cases.

C. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR FSSAI CENTRAL LICENSE

For FSSAI Central License

  • All documents same as above in case of state license.
  • Audited balance sheet in case Food Manufacture is applying for a Central license.
  • IEC Code in case FSSAI license is to be applied for Export / Import.

D. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR MANUFACTURING UNIT FOOD LICENSE

For a Manufacturing Unit, Following Additional Documents are Required

  • List of food category;
  • Name and number of equipment’s as per installed capacity and horse power;
  • Complete layout plan for manufacturing unit
  • Water contamination report of pesticide residue
  • Production unit photograph
