Understanding Design Registration and Its Validity
Under the Designs Act, 2000, once a design is registered, the original term of protection lasts for ten years from the date of registration.
To extend protection beyond this initial period, a renewal application must be submitted before the expiry of the ten-year term. A successful renewal extends the design protection for an additional five years, ensuring continued exclusivity over the design.
